10:12 pm
showers. it would be a lot like what happened last night where any rain or snow showers would probably melt on pavement, but after that does a wave of low pressure try to form on that arctic boundary? that's the question we're still trying to get answers to tonight. some of our models say yes, but it would very much depend on how strong does this thing get or track out to sea or stay closer to the coast. our question is this. does the low go out to sea? if it does, there's not going to be a lot of snow but maybe a small accumulation especially south and east of d.c. if that track were closer to the coast, we might be talking about some accumulating snow along the i- 95 corridor on saturday and it might begin say 3 a.m. or 4 a.m. friday. we're still looking at those details. i have another round of guidance coming in and i'll share the new information with you in a little bit. it started with a

10:19 pm
safe, but some confused passengers thought they were being led by a metro employee, not a passenger. board chairman tom downs believes metro needs to do everything it can to make sure people know the deadly consequences. >> they're risking their life about a train without any direction or supervision or protection. >> reporter: the incident started with an arcing insulator on the track. metro says it was ready to restore power after about 15 minutes, but the passengers in the tunnel caused the delay to stretch more than two hours. >> one of the few good things that came out of this is no one was injured and no one lost their life. >> reporter: metro hasn't disciplined any employees for the lapses and says instead it will focus on improving training and drills for situations just like this. most concerning, though, seems to be that self-evacuation. d.c. board member muriel bowser pondered why people would exit the train and go onto the

>> good luck, john, hope you win. >> me, too. what's going on for the snowstorm this weekend? >> people are talking about some potential. i saw at least up to 48 hours on some of the new guidance and what it looks like in a nutshell to me is we get a little rain, snow shower activity tomorrow night, much like overnight last night. that's tomorrow night, but then something is trying to develop off the coast. is it going to be too far south and east of here? that's what i need to see. still some questions remain. you'll see that on the weather headlines. here's what we do know. it was a beautiful day. happy valentine's day, everybody, and your friday will be another pretty nice day and mild. i think we'll get into the mid- 50s. that's important because once again if we do get a little something tomorrow night as this arctic boundary crosses our area, pavement should be pretty warm. if we have rain changing over
10:48 pm
to snow, i think roads will melt that off. you could get a small accumulation on grassy areas. that's the friday night part of this which we expect to see a little rain and snow shower activity the way things look tonight. it's a bit of a moving target. the question is do we get another round of snow saturday from this same area of low pressure going out to the coast blowing back some moisture? we're not sure yet. right now it looks like that might be happening south and east of d.c. we'll watch that closely and whether or not that line changes. meanwhile today 50 degrees, dulles 50, bwi thurgood marshall 49. how beautiful was it with that sunshine, too such bonus weather today and it's still mild here in the district. we're at 41, but manassas has cooled off to 28 degrees. we'll have some cool spots, frederick down to 28 degrees, leonardtown 36, stevensville 37. we do expect to have a chilly night as we just have clear
10:49 pm
skies now. the moisture up to our north will stay to our north with that particular system, might get a little band of clouds to our north and west and maybe a few sprinkles of rain coming through garrett county a little later. tomorrow we'll watch the stronger cold front get closer. it does push milder air in our direction. we'll describe it as cool but really for february it's not bad. the frontal boundary will be closing in and it crosses tomorrow night. as it does so we might squeeze out some rain and snow showers. it appears as though an area of low pressure will try to develop along the leading edge of that colder air and on saturday we know it will pull in the cold stuff. so our question remains where does this area of low pressure get to and there are two scenarios we can see happening. one is that it goes off to sea and there's very little snow for the metro area or perhaps it's just right down here through the hampton roads area. in the second scenario would have it getting closer to the coast as it moves up.
10:50 pm
if it is closer and maybe a bit stronger, it could produce another round of snow saturday for the i-95 corridor, maybe a little here and more up to our north. they'd have to watch it in philly across jersey into new york city, maybe into boston. those are the two scenarios that need to get worked out on saturday. here's futurecast. it's seeing rain showers as the front gets closer tomorrow night. watch what maps as i run this out to 10 -- happens as i run this out to 10:00, 11:00. we squeeze out a few snow showers. so that moves on away. we get a little sunshine on saturday according to futurecast, but does go start to develop down here -- something start to develop down here? we'll have to wait and see. on your fox 5 accuweather seven- day forecast we do know this about the weekend. it's going to get colder. saturday we'll only be 40 degrees. so whether we get accumulating
